Halloween III Season of the Witch (1982) anthology

Tagline for the scary flick: "Witchcraft enters the computer age, and a different terror begins."

There's no Michael Myers in Season of the Witch in 1982, so fans of Halloween and its follow-ups felt snubbed.

While filming Halloween III, John Carpenter hoped to establish an anthology series. A new Halloween film might be released each year around the holiday, with each one conveying a different narrative. I thought it was a brilliant concept, and I wish they had had the opportunity to develop it further. In the end, things didn't work out for us.

Dr. Daniel Challis (Tom Atkins) gets lured into a weird mystery few days before Halloween when he discovers an elderly patient in his care being murdered while holding a Halloween mask.

Dr. Challis meets Ellie (Stacey Nelkin), the late guy's daughter, in Santa Mira, California. The Halloween mask company's headquarters are located in Silver Shamrock. Silver Shamrock has sold millions of masks because to its marketing effort, which includes a memorable jingle.

(For the Silver Shamrock plant's location, a milk factory was used)

They're also asking kids to watch a Halloween night show in their costumes. Dr. Challis and Ellie find that Conal Cochran (Dan O'Herlihy) is intending to murder hundreds or millions of innocent people.

Aside from a few sequences when the original Halloween is aired on TV, the Halloween 3: Season of the Witch franchise has no connection to Myers, Loomis, Laurie Strode, or Haddonfield, Illinois. Regardless all its variations from the prior two films, Halloween 3: Season of the updated Witch is still a good time.

The movie isn't perfect, but it has several memorable passages, such when Cochran tries his idea on Buddy Kupfer's family. Buddy sold several masks, so the manufacturer gave him a VIP tour.

When Big Buddy's son Little Buddy, played by Brad Schacter, is confined to a cramped room on Halloween night to watch the performance that has been planned for the holiday, he dons a mask and starts to watch. It goes without saying that things spiral out of hand, and the bloodbath that follows is one you won't forget in a hurry. Another notable part of the show is when Conal Cochran gives a type of history lecture in which he discusses the real genesis of Halloween.

I've always loved the Halloween films, particularly those that came after Halloween III and featured Michael Myers once again (Halloween IV: The Return of Michael Myers and Halloween V: The Revenge of Michel Myers). However, I wonder whether John Carpenter and Debra Hill would have been able to tell more tales if they had followed through on their initial intention.

The fault really lies with the people who added the number "3" to this movie (leading people to believe it was yet another sequel to the classic original).

The fact that I adored Halloween 3: Season of the Witch makes the extreme blunder of Carpenter's vision a bit more difficult for me to swallow.

Tommy Lee Wallace wrote and directed.

In this film, Stacey Nelkin, Dan O'Herlihy, and Tom Atkins all play important roles.
